The Marrakesh Country Club is one of the area’s highly desirable communities with its natural setting, lush fairways, and spectacular scenery. The San Jacinto and Santa Rosa Mountains protect this gated community and add to the landscapes reminiscing of Morocco’s citrus groves, sandstone walls, and desert terrain.
A young golfer from Chicago, Johnny Dawson, had a dream for the Marrakesh Country Club of a community that would stand out from all the rest. He wanted to blend the desert style with a classic Hollywood Regency theme. So he enlisted the help of architectural designer John Elgin Woolf because he was very famous at the time and there were eighteen other clubs being built in that area. Woolf’s widely spaced homes and style was successful. The Marrakesh Country Club finished fourteen building phases in 1978 with 364 homes and fourteen neighborhoods. Each individual community was built with a pool and pavilion. Today these neighborhoods are under a single Home Owners Association.
Members enjoy golf on the 18-hole executive course and matches of tennis. The Clubhouse has a fitness center, golf shop, and a variety of dining options. The Dining Room offers upscale entrees and a dance floor while The Patio features private outdoor dining. The Main Bar is available for cocktail receptions and parities. The Kasbah Room is used for private parties served by a renowned chef and culinary staff.
The club was built with socializing in mind and there are many exciting tournaments and programs. The community is minutes from shopping and dining in the City of Palm Desert as well as hiking and biking in the beautiful wilderness. The area is serviced by the Desert Sands Unified School District and there are eight private schools including Sacred Heart Catholic Academy, The Learning Tree Academy, Hope Academy, and the Desert Torah Academy.
